Trinity County Migration Barrier Removal

Trinity County has completed 10 Migration Barrier Removal Projects between 2000 & 2009, restoring access to over 23 miles of salmonid habitat. The County has completed these projects through funding from the S.B. 271 Grant Program, Proposition 204, Coastal Conservancy, NOAA Open Rivers, USFWS, NFWF, and County in-kind matching funds. Two additional projects are scheduled for completion in 2010 that will open access to ~ 1.7 miles of salmonid habitat.

Hall City Creek at Wildwood Road - Constructed in 2008, this project replaced two undersized 36" culverts with an embedded 7-foot tall, 12-foot wide arch culvert that will allow complete access to ~5 miles of upstream spawning & rearing habitat for steelhead. This project is funded by the Steelhead Stamp Program & Trinity County DOT. Final road decommissioning & revegetation of the old roadway approaches is set for October 2009.

Conner Creek #1 and #2 - Project currently in design stage with proposed retrofits at both crossings to improve access to 2 miles of upstream rearing habitat for juvenile and adult salmonids. Planned construction in summer & fall 2010.
