The Del Norte County Migration Barrier Removal Project
at Jordan Creek and Parkway Drive resulted in the simultaneous removal of
a private barrier located directly upstream. The County-owned concrete box
culvert on Parkway drive (left) was replaced with a Con-Tech Aluminum Arch
shown below. The arch provides for full natural stream bed simulation and
the flood capacity at the crossing was increased by 450% as a result of this
project.
The two culverts shown right were located directly upstream
of the County stream crossing on Parkway Drive. In conjunction with the County
Migration Barrier Removal Project, the landowner agreed to replace the two
culverts with a "Big-R" pre-fabricated bridge. In total,
this project opened access to over 2.5 miles of habitat for coho salmon, steelhead
and cutthroat trout.
This project was funded through the California Department
of Fish and Game S.B. 271 Grant Program, S.B. 291, the National Fish and Wildlife
Foundation and by Del Norte County.
