Moving
Ahead with Migration Barrier Removal. Since 2001, Mendocino
County has completed 10 projects. The County has slated 1 project for
construction in 2010: Ryan Creek, with potential for the 5C Program to complete
a Caltrans & private driveway crossing upstream on the South Fork of Ryan
Creek during the same year. Caltrans plans to complete the North Fork Ryan
Creek barrier removal project within the next 3 years. All County projects
have restored access to ~ 17 miles of spawning and rearing habitat for coho
salmon & steelhead.

Sediment Reduction Project
Located in the Garcia River Watershed, the sediment reduction
project on 10 Mile Road in Mendocino County helped to prevent the delivery
of over 4,000 cubic yards of sediment to a stream.

BEFORE: Inboard ditch road with no drainage
relief for 1,000 feet, subject to severe rutting during winter by concentration
of water contained by road berm

AFTER: Applied 8" rock, filled inboard
ditch, and sloped at 4% into rock armored bank to relief outsloped section.
